Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to commonly asked questions about Mint Financial Coaching.

How many sessions do I get?

It depends on what your coach recommends for you and your goals. Depending on the amount of support you need, it could be 1 or 2 additional sessions or multiple check-ins over the course of a year.

Is there anything you don’t cover?

We don’t cover the following:

  • Investments
We aren’t wealth managers, so we don't invest your money for you or provide advice on specific securities (like individual stocks or bonds) to invest in.
  • Business finances
We don’t give financial advice for businesses or do any money management for businesses. We only work with individual people on their personal finances. (For bookkeeping support, contact our friends at QuickBooks Live.)
  • Retirement portfolios
While we can offer strategies to prepare for retirement, we can’t optimize portfolios for people who are getting ready to retire soon.
  • Finances outside the US
Our coaches are trained to handle finances in the US, so we don’t currently offer coaching to people living in other countries or with foreign income.
  • Other specific advice
We don’t give specific legal, credit repair, debt management, or tax advice.
What we will do is educate you on the financial landscape so you can make informed decisions.

Who are your financial coaches?

Our Mint coaches are habit pros, ready to help you get to the “why” of your financial goals to help you achieve them quickly. They work with our number-crunching team of financial experts to come up with a plan that adds up and that you’re excited to make progress on. We only hire coaches and experts who are vetted by the leading governing bodies in their respective fields. For coaches, that means a certification or credential from the International Coaching Federation, or ICF. For financial experts, a range of credentials including CFP®, CPA and AIC.

Do I have to do a video session or can I do a call instead?

We encourage meeting face-to-face! We’ve seen that building a personal, trusting relationship with your coach brings the best results. If you still prefer to chat via another method, our coaches can connect with you over a voice-only phone call. Just let them know after you schedule your first session.

What if my financial situation changes dramatically?

Life happens, so our plans are designed to adapt to your situation. Our experts are experienced in helping people overcome unexpected challenges, and our goal is to help you learn the strategies to become financially resilient and navigate any circumstance.

When will I be charged?

You’ll be charged at the price you choose, only when you decide to continue beyond the free intro session (before your coach helps you create your personalized plan).

How much does this cost?

Your first session is free. After that, pay what you want to get more sessions and a personalized financial plan. We’ll suggest a price, but you decide how much you actually pay.

The range of price suggestions start at $30 and ends at $400, based on the cost of the number of sessions your coach recommends for you and your goals. We believe you’ll love coaching, so pay what you believe the service is worth.

How does this service work with the Mint app?

Your Mint coach creates your expert-crafted plan based on your real spending data, securely shared via your Mint profile.
You also gain access to the My coach tab—an easy, one-stop shop for scheduling coaching appointments, viewing your next steps, and messaging your coach directly.
